The Impact of Ubuntu - Julia's Perspective

Ubuntu…I AM because you ARE.

The Ubuntu Community has been a catalyst for many changes within my life, without anything around me changing at all - apart from my mindset.

I have had the privilege of seeing the development of the Ubuntu CommUNITY from both an insider perspective (working with Angela within her Fuhrman Creative marketing team) and an experience of the Ubuntu CommUNITY as a member of the original group. I’m so excited to share a piece of my story with you today!

A photo of Julia enjoying a cup of coffee while writing in her journal.

For starters, I would love to share some background on myself. I am 27 years old with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Admin & Marketing and a passion for creation in many capacities (writing, photography, music, etc.)! I absolutely love to cook, sing, and spend time with my golden doodle, Mateo.

While I’m blessed to live a healthy, safe, sustainable life, I have struggled with finding my purpose. After a childhood of family traumas, negative reinforcement of social norms and conditioning, as well as low self-worth, I found myself making life decisions based on outside factors, leading me off of my own path to a place that, just frankly, didn’t feel good.

As I’ve always worked to better myself, I felt as though I lacked support or a safe space to really dive deep into what was going on within, and through the discussions and stories of my Ubuntu sisters, my perspective has completely changed.

While I knew that the group was coming and our hopes for what it would become, it was (and still is) developing into something even more magical than we could have imagined.

It’s a safe space. Somewhere for women to connect to something bigger than themselves while learning about different cultures around the world and how women manage ALL of the things in their lives on a global scale.

And what had we found? While our backgrounds and cultures may differ, each of our stories is unique; we all felt the same longing for something MORE…For barriers of bias to be taken down so the REAL healing can begin.

Watching Consciously Co-Creating and the Ubuntu Community grow and expand has been an incredible experience I am honored to witness and participate in. From the topic of many brainstorming sessions to the first official meeting, my worldview shifted.

Today, it is this incredible space for women to come and connect from all over the world. Truly! From the United States to Kenya to Italy and beyond, I have had the privilege of getting to know some incredible women ready to change the world.

It’s so inspiring to see and constantly serves as a reminder that we all have the power to make waves.

Each woman is uniquely different, but PASSION, DETERMINATION, EXPANSION, and the knowledge that there is more run through each of us in our own way, bringing new viewpoints and stories into the discussion each time we come together.

A special thank you to Angela, Kathi, Kia, Kristen, Jossy, Pascilita, and Phelisters for watching me stumble and grow with love and support.

This year was the first year I celebrated my birthday ever, in my whole life. I took this opportunity to spread happiness in an orphanage and have fun with the kids and give them whatever I could. If you do something good for someone in need, then you will raise their spirits along with your own. They just need to feel that there is someone who shows concern towards them. That's a big enough reason to bring them happiness!
